Villas and cabins in and around Rovaniemi
Lakeside log villas, forest cabins and quiet houses where you can watch the northern lights from your own terrace.
We look after 27 villas, cabins and houses in and around Rovaniemi. Some are in residential areas a short drive from the centre; others sit by a lake or in pine forest 15 to 30 minutes out of town, with almost no light pollution.
Staying outside the city is where Lapland really feels like Lapland. You can take a sauna, walk down to a frozen lake and check the sky for the aurora without joining a tour. Willa Lumia, for example, has a heated skylight above one of the beds so you can watch the sky lying down.
A rental car makes life easier at the homes outside town, though many tour companies can still pick you up. If you would rather walk to restaurants, have a look at our city apartments with sauna instead.

Choosing a villa or cabin
For the northern lights
Choose a home outside the centre with an open view to the north. Clear skies matter more than location, so plan a few nights. Our northern lights guide explains when and where.
For a group
Check bedrooms and bathrooms, not just the guest count. Villas with two bathrooms and a sauna make mornings and evenings far easier for 6 to 10 people.
For a quiet escape
The lakeside homes are the most peaceful. Bring food for a few days and enjoy the fireplace, sauna and long evenings.
Not sure which one fits?
Tell us your dates, group and wishes. A local from our team replies with two or three homes that fit, and can add tours like huskies or a northern lights trip.
Questions guests ask
Do the villas have a sauna?
Most of them do. Look for the Sauna badge on each home. Some lakeside villas also offer an outdoor sauna or hot tub for an extra fee, shown in the listing.
Do I need a car?
For the lakeside and forest homes a car is recommended. Homes closer to town are reachable by taxi, and many tour companies pick up from the address.
Can we see the northern lights from the villa?
On a clear, dark night between late August and early April, yes. The homes outside town have the best chance because there are few street lights.
How far is Santa Claus Village?
Santa Claus Village is about 8 km north of the city centre. Several of our houses are on that side of town.
