Rovaniemi accommodation with your own sauna
City apartments, forest cabins and lakeside villas where the sauna is part of the home. No shared spa schedule and no queue.
We have 48 homes in Rovaniemi with their own sauna: 23 apartments and 25 houses, cabins and villas. Most are private electric saunas you can switch on whenever you like; a few lakeside homes also have a wood-burning one.
In Finland the sauna is not a luxury extra. It is how you warm up after a day at minus twenty, dry off after a husky ride and wind down before bed. Having one in your own home means you can go in as a family, take turns with friends or step out onto the terrace to cool off under the northern lights.
Prefer to stay in town? Pick one of the city centre apartments, where restaurants and the riverside are a short walk away. Want silence and dark skies? Choose a house by a lake or in the forest outside the centre. Our guide to where to stay in Rovaniemi explains the areas.

How to use a Finnish sauna
Heat it up
An electric sauna takes about 30–45 minutes to heat. Switch it on when you come back from your tour and it is ready by the time you have changed.
Go in, cool off, repeat
Sit on the benches for 10–15 minutes, throw a little water on the stones for steam (löyly), then step out to cool down. Most Finns do two or three rounds.
Drink water, not too much alcohol
Have a glass of water between rounds. Finnish sauna etiquette is relaxed, but staying hydrated makes it far more enjoyable.
Not sure which one fits?
Tell us your dates, group and wishes. A local from our team replies with two or three homes that fit, and can add tours like huskies or a northern lights trip.
Questions guests ask
Is the sauna private?
In almost all of these homes the sauna is inside the apartment or house and only used by your group. If a sauna is shared or has set times, the listing says so.
Does a sauna cost extra?
No, the sauna is included in the price of these homes. A few lakeside properties offer an extra outdoor sauna or hot tub for a separate fee; this is mentioned in the listing.
Can children use the sauna?
Yes, Finnish children go to the sauna from a young age. Keep the temperature lower, keep rounds short and always have an adult with them.
Which is better for the northern lights, a city apartment or a house?
A house or cabin outside the centre has less light pollution, so you can often watch the aurora from the terrace. In the city you will want a short walk or a northern lights tour.
How do I book?
Pick a home, choose your dates and book directly on this site. If you want help choosing, use Plan your trip and we will suggest homes that fit.
